Can people really change?

Every person longs for change. We want stronger families, healthier relationships, freedom from destructive habits, and greater peace in the middle of life’s challenges. But lasting transformation cannot be accomplished by determination alone.

In this message, Pastor Ed Kennedy continues our study on the authority and transforming power of God’s Word by examining one of Scripture’s most encouraging truths: God has not left believers to change on their own. The Promise of the Helper

One of the central passages in this message is Jesus’ promise in John 14 that He would send “another Helper” after His ascension.

Jesus assures His followers that they will never be abandoned. The Holy Spirit dwells within every believer, providing wisdom, conviction, comfort, encouragement, and truth. Through His presence, Christians are equipped to understand God’s Word, obey Christ’s commands, and continue growing in their relationship with Him.

This promise remains just as relevant today as it was for the first disciples.

More Than Behavior Modification

Our culture often encourages people to become better versions of themselves through education, discipline, or positive thinking. While those things have value, the Bible teaches that humanity’s greatest need is much deeper.

Scripture declares that we need a new heart.

This sermon carefully explains the difference between temporary behavioral change and genuine spiritual transformation. Through the gospel, God doesn’t simply improve people—He makes them new.

The Christian life begins with new birth and continues through the lifelong work of sanctification as the Holy Spirit faithfully shapes believers to become more like Jesus Christ.
