Philippians: Living a Christ-Centered Life
A 12-Week Bible Study on Joy, Humility, Perseverance & Contentment
Sundays at 9:30 a.m. | Conference Room
Led by Kirk Austin & Bill Bebee
What does it look like to live with joy when circumstances are difficult, peace when life feels uncertain, and contentment in every season?
This fall, join us at Spicewood Baptist Church for a 12-week journey through the book of Philippians. Led by Kirk Austin and Bill Bebee, this Sunday morning Bible study will explore Paul’s powerful encouragement to live faithfully, joyfully, and with our eyes firmly fixed on Christ.
Whether you’ve studied Philippians many times or are just beginning to explore the Bible, you’re invited to join us. Come ready to open God’s Word, ask questions, learn alongside others, and discover how the truths of Philippians apply to everyday life.
Finding Joy in Christ in Every Season
Paul wrote Philippians from prison, yet joy runs throughout his letter. His circumstances were difficult, but his confidence in Christ remained strong.
Over the course of 12 weeks, we’ll study Philippians passage by passage and explore some of its central themes, including:
- Gospel partnership and prayer
- Finding joy in suffering
- Unity and humility
- Following the example of Christ
- Faithfulness and service
- Knowing Christ more deeply
- Persevering toward the goal
- Experiencing God’s peace
- Learning contentment and generosity
- Living a Christ-centered life
Our goal isn’t simply to know more about Philippians. We want God’s Word to shape how we think, what we believe, and how we live.
More Than a Bible Lesson
Each week, we’ll approach Scripture with four important questions:
What does the passage say?
We’ll begin by carefully observing the biblical text and understanding its historical and literary context.
What does the passage mean?
We’ll consider Paul’s intended message and what the passage reveals about God, people, and the larger message of Scripture.
How should this truth change my life?
We’ll look for promises to trust, commands to obey, examples to follow, sins to avoid, and truths that should reshape our thinking.
How should I respond to God?
Finally, we’ll turn what we’ve learned into prayer, worship, obedience, encouragement, and practical action.
Throughout the study, participants will also be encouraged to memorize key verses from Philippians, including some of the most familiar and meaningful passages in the book.

Come Study Philippians With Us
You don’t need to be a Bible scholar, and you don’t need to have all the answers. Bring your Bible, bring your questions, and come ready to learn.
Our desire is to create an atmosphere of grace, encouragement, thoughtful discussion, prayer, and practical application where adults can grow in their understanding of Scripture while building meaningful relationships with one another.
Philippians reminds us that lasting joy isn’t ultimately found in comfortable circumstances. It is found in Jesus Christ. Together, we’ll learn what it means to pursue Christ-centered joy, humility, perseverance, maturity, and contentment while keeping our focus on Christ and eternity.
